Privacy policy.
How we handle your personal and credit information, and what you can do about it.
This policy explains how CF Financial Services Pty Ltd (ABN 42 675 623 417), trading as Thrift Private, collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and where we handle credit information, by Part IIIA of that Act and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code.
As a credit representative of Loan Market Group Pty Ltd (Australian Credit Licence 517192), some information you give us is also handled under the licensee's privacy policy.
What we collect
- Identity and contact details: name, address, date of birth, phone, email, and identification documents.
- Financial information: assets, liabilities, income where relevant, existing loans, and details of the property offered as security.
- Credit information: credit history, repayment history, defaults, judgments and information from credit reporting bodies.
- Transaction information: the purpose of the loan, how it will be repaid, and documents supporting that.
- Technical information: pages visited on this website and general analytics data, which does not identify you personally.
How we collect it
Usually directly from you, through the enquiry forms on this site, by phone, or in documents you provide. We may also collect information from credit reporting bodies, lenders, your accountant or solicitor where you have authorised it, valuers, and publicly available sources such as land title registries and ASIC.
Why we collect it
To assess your enquiry, identify lenders whose criteria your application may meet, prepare and submit applications on your behalf, comply with our obligations including anti-money laundering and responsible lending requirements, and to contact you about your enquiry.
We do not sell your information. We do not use enquiry data for unrelated marketing without your consent.
Who we disclose it to
- Lenders and their mortgage insurers, for the purpose of assessing your application.
- Loan Market Group Pty Ltd as our licensee, and its aggregation and compliance systems.
- Credit reporting bodies, where a credit check is required and you have consented.
- Valuers, solicitors and settlement agents involved in your transaction.
- Service providers who host our systems, under confidentiality obligations.
- Regulators, courts or law enforcement where we are legally required to.
Some service providers may store data outside Australia. Where that occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Credit information
Where we obtain a credit report, we do so with your consent. Credit reporting bodies may hold information about your credit history and may include information we provide. You have the right to request a copy of your credit report directly from a credit reporting body, to ask them to correct it, and to request that they not use your information for direct marketing or pre-screening.
Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls and encrypted transmission. We retain records for as long as required by law, which for credit-related records is generally at least seven years, and destroy or de-identify them when no longer needed.
Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything inaccurate or out of date. There is no fee to make a request, though we may charge a reasonable cost of providing access in some circumstances.
Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your information, please raise it with us first so we can try to resolve it. Our process is set out on the complaints page.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page.
